Girlguiding is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy details the information we collect from you when you access the Girlguiding website and the steps we take to ensure this information remains confidential.

Our intentions

The information we collect from you

If you are an active member of Girlguiding you will be able to access our secure members’ area and Go! the membership database. To do this, you will need to provide us with the following personal information:

• membership number

• postcode

• date of birth.

If you apply for more details of guiding activities in your area, we will also request the following information in order to locate your nearest Girlguiding representatives:

• home address

• telephone number.

There are occasions where we ask for extra personal information, such as registration for an event or online questionnaires. Any details collected are stored securely offline and are not stored on our web server.

Finally, in the case of our online shopping website, we also collect your home address and credit/debit card details in order to process your requested orders. For more details on how we handle such sensitive data, please see the credit card details section of this policy.

Online Donations

If you donate online to Girlguiding the following privacy policy will apply to the information that you provide.Girlguiding will retain the following personal information:

• Your first name and last name

• Your address, including country

• Your email address

• The telephone numbers you provide, if any

• Your age range (18-25, 26-45, 46-65, 66-85, 85+)

• Your gender

• Whether or not you are a member of Girlguiding

• Whether or not you are a UK taxpayer

When you supply this information to us, we are legally obliged by the Data Protection Act 1998 to ensure that we only use this information for the purpose for which it was requested, and to ensure that it is kept securely.If you have selected either (or both) of the options giving us permission to contact you ("I am happy to be contacted by Girlguiding for marketing purposes" and "I would like to be kept up-to-date with how my contribution is being spent"), Girlguiding may send communications to you by email or post from time to time.

This policy is in addition to our general privacy policy.

Special note for users under the age of 18

If you are under the age of 18, you must obtain permission from your parent or guardian before registering or providing any personal information to us.

What we do with this information

The information about your computer detailed above is written to a text log file held on our web server. These log files are only accessible to the Web Manager at Girlguiding and the server administrators at the third-party hosting company that manage the server.

The personal information you provide when you register with us is stored in a secure database on our own web server at the hosting company. This information is only accessible to the Web Manager at Girlguiding and the server administrator at the hosting company.

In the case of our online shopping website, your personal information is temporarily stored on a secure area on our server. Once we have processed any online purchases you make through this website, this information is deleted from the server and stored securely offline at our Trading Service offices.

What we store in cookie files
